  1. Creating Inventories

The Create Inventory... command creates a file and stores an inventory of the contents of a selected disk or folder in it. Everything is inventoried: files and folders, visible and invisible, everything, though not in a format the user can read. File Buddy can then compare two inventories and report the dfferences. See Compare Inventories.

At the start of the inventory process, File Buddy obtains a count of the number of items on the volume to be inventoried. On rare occasions, the number of files and folders actually found differs from the number anticipated. This potentially means that the inventory is not entirely valid. In this case,□ File Buddy will display an alert stating that the numbers did not match and cancel the inventory. At the time of this writing, all the possible causes for this are not known. It could be that some other process has made a change to the directory structure during the inventory process or there is a problem with the volume窶冱 catalog. If the problem occurs repeatedly, one or more of the follwing may help:

  7. 1. Check the disk with Norton Utilities Disk Doctor.
  8. 2. Rebuild the desktop.
  9. 3. Restart with extensions off.
